Postponed Home Purchase and an Unexpected $2,323 Boost

Postponed Home Purchase and an Unexpected $2,323 Boost

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you had a great weekend and enjoyed St. Patrick’s Day. From now on, I’ll be combining my Saturday and Monday life updates into one post. I figure most of you don’t want to hear about my life twice a week, and honestly, I’m not that interesting. Anyway, it was a pretty quiet weekend because W was sick the whole time.

We’ve decided to wait until next year to buy our next house. We’re not ready to sell yet, and we still love our current home. Selling it now, especially since we haven’t found anything better, just doesn’t make sense. Unless something perfect comes along, we’re not planning to buy this year. We don’t want to end up buying another house quickly after if we only kind of like the new one.

Next year is more likely for us to buy a new place. Hopefully, something perfect will come up by then. For now, we’re just enjoying where we live. Lifestyle inflation has been catching up with me, but we should be saving so we can buy the next house mostly with cash.

What made you decide to buy your second house? Was it lifestyle inflation, or did you just outgrow your current place? For us, it’s a bit of both. A bigger yard and more than a one-car garage would be nice.

Spending
We had some major expenses last week, but I’ll save that for another post. Let’s just say we bought a new car, but it hasn’t been delivered yet. Target had a big sale on their Home section, so I went three times this weekend and spent over $300 redoing our living and dining room decor. I bought a lot of things and love it all! We just need a new side table for the living room and to install carpet.

W and I have lived together for nearly six years and never really decorated our house until now. We had furniture and things on the wall, but nothing matched, and it looked like a mess. Now that we have more time and money, we’ve started decorating more. There are still many things we want to do, and I’ll write a whole post about that soon.

Extra Income (excluding our main jobs)
I received about $2,323 in payments last week. It was a good week, and I wish it could stay like this forever. Extra income doesn’t include our salaries (I’m an analyst, and he’s a car salesman). Some of you have asked about my schedule and how I manage everything. Should I write a post about my daily routine? Let me know if that sounds interesting or boring.

Affiliate income is still going well, and I’m glad I started focusing on it. I have bigger plans and hope to see this area of my income grow. I’m also thinking more about passive income. What do you do for passive income?

My friend and I are still stuck on a name for our business. Some of you suggested picking something and changing it later, but the name is important for what we want to do. We can’t move forward until we decide on our “brand” and name.

Food
We’ve got another meal plan this week! We’re still doing great with eating at home five days a week. I’m not sure how much we spent on food last week, but it was minimal. We did eat out twice, but it was at two cheap places near our house with the best Mexican and Chinese food we’ve ever had.

How’s your food budget going? If you have any tasty recipes from last week, please share them in the comments so I can add them to my meal plan for future weeks.

Tuesday: Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Wednesday: Chicken Rollatini with Spinach alla Parmigiana
Thursday: Out to eat
Friday: Steak and vegetables
Saturday: Out to eat
Sunday: Breakfast for dinner (French toast, eggs, bacon)

Being Healthy
I’m still doing well with my health, though I could eat healthier. I’ve been snacking on a lot of fruit. My sister still yells at me for being unhealthy, and she’s definitely a motivator!

How are you doing with your extra income, spending, and staying healthy?
