A Glimpse into My Daily Life as a Self-Employed Professional

Hey everyone! If you haven’t yet, check out my two latest posts on Diversified Finances about self-employment—Finding A Job That Suits The Lifestyle You Want and Four Months Of Being Self-Employed (there’s a funny gif in that one that always makes me laugh).

Back in January, Cat wrote an article called A Day In The Life: Self Employment Version, which inspired me to share my own experience.

Now that I’m self-employed, people often ask, “What do you do all day?” whenever I mention that I freelance and work from home. Honestly, my days vary a lot. Some days I work over 12 hours, while other days I barely work at all. Weekends are usually free, and Mondays are my busiest.

Working from home is fantastic, and I’m so grateful I get to do it. I love my flexible schedule, which allows me to sleep in or handle appointments as needed.

I spend a lot of time on social media (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Gchat) throughout the day, but I don’t really consider that as work. My day involves a lot of blog management, which means checking on blogs and emails multiple times.

Here’s a typical day for me as a freelancer:

**6:30 A.M.**
I wake up early because I enjoy my work now, something I never thought I’d say. When I had a day job, I needed multiple alarms to wake up. Now, I start working from bed while everyone else is still asleep. My dogs usually stay asleep too, so I don’t have to let them out yet. I deal with emails that came in overnight, check my blog to ensure my latest post is live, and approve and reply to comments. If I’m awake enough, I read blog posts on Bloglovin, which is a favorite part of my day.

**8:30 A.M.**
I often take a one to two-hour nap. It’s usually a glorious nap, so I’m fine with that.

**10 A.M.**
I wake up, brush my teeth again, put on some makeup, and do my hair. The dogs want to go outside, so I let them out. I make breakfast, feed the dogs, and open all the blinds and curtains.

**11 A.M.**
I start working again, handling more emails from potential clients and replying to morning emails. I also reply to new blog comments. Throughout the day, I work on blog posts, but I usually write in the afternoon or evening.

**1 P.M.**
Lunch time! Lately, it’s been a lot of sandwiches with deli meats like roast beef, buffalo chicken, honey ham, and roasted turkey. After lunch, I do a bit more freelancing and blog work. I also fit in a workout, which usually lasts about an hour.

**3 P.M.**
Depending on the day, I might hang out with Wes or friends. If I leave the house, I put on regular clothes and do my makeup so I don’t look like a 12-year-old. Wes and I might run errands or do something outdoorsy. If I’m with friends, we often go out to eat or run errands together. If I don’t leave the house, I continue working on articles, replying to emails, and managing blog comments. I also handle freelancing tasks and talk to other bloggers.

**7 P.M.**
Wes usually asks me to cook something delicious. We eat and sometimes watch movies to relax. I work on any posts that need finishing and handle more emails and comments.

**12 A.M.**
I get ready for bed, check my emails one last time, and see if any comments need approval on my blog or the blogs I manage. I often get caught up on Pinterest, especially in the wedding section. Then, it’s bedtime.

Did anything in my day surprise you? How many hours do you spend working each day? What does your typical day look like? Tell me!
