Susie's Strategy: Growing an Email List by 29,000+ in Just 9 Months

Today, I’m thrilled to introduce you to Susie Moore. I met Susie last summer, and we had an amazing weekend in New Hampshire filled with hiking, rock climbing, yoga, and more! She’s incredibly fun and one of the most positive people I’ve ever met.

Susie’s work has been featured on The Today Show, Oprah, Business Insider, The Huffington Post, Forbes, Time Inc, Marie Claire, and others. Her insights have been shared by prominent figures like Arianna Huffington, Paulo Coelho, Kris Jenner, and Sara Blakely.

Recently, I mentioned in a blog post that I’m taking a course on getting more media mentions to grow my page views. This is something I firmly believe in. I’ve been featured on Forbes, The Huffington Post, Yahoo Finance, CNBC, and more. People often ask how I’ve managed to get so many features. Today, you’ll learn how to achieve this for yourself too!

In this interview, you’ll discover:
– How Susie grew her email list by 29,000 subscribers in just 9 months.
– How guest posting transformed her life.
– Steps to secure high-quality media mentions.
– What a sample pitch looks like.
– Her top tips for achieving success.

I asked you, my readers, what questions I should ask Susie. Below are your questions (and some of mine) about Susie’s journey and accomplishments. Make sure you’re following me on Facebook to submit your questions for future interviews.

**Tell me your story. Who are you and what do you do?**

I’m a life coach helping women become more visible in their business and life. I used to be a Silicon Valley sales director in ad tech. While my job was good, I always wanted to do more meaningful work and be independent. So, in 2013, I started my side hustle as a life coach. I was passionate about helping people solve their problems in simple, repeatable ways. As I gained more clients, I knew I had made the right decision.

One day, I read a MindBodyGreen article about happiness and thought, “I know a thing or two about this!” I submitted a 500-word piece, and two weeks later, it went live and was shared nearly 4,000 times. That’s when I realized this was key to growing my business.

**How did you grow your email list by 29,000 subscribers in just 9 months?**

I used guest posting. By submitting my life advice to large media outlets like MindBodyGreen, Marie Claire, Business Insider, and Huffington Post, my content reached a vast audience. It’s like giving your message a huge microphone. These media companies need content, and by contributing, you gain access to their massive audience and credibility.

**How can media help grow a business, like a blog?**

Guest posting is perfect for bloggers. Bloggers already create content and often have untapped potential. Being featured in the media is a natural next step. Think of your blog as a lemonade stand. Guest posting is like setting up a pop-up stand in a busy market, attracting more people to your original stand.

Guest posts also provide logos for your website, increasing your authority. Additionally, backlinks from reputable sites boost your domain authority, improving your search rankings. Many times, you can repurpose existing blog posts for guest posts, making the process easier.

**Are we only talking about written media?**

Guest posting is primarily in written form, but it can lead to other media opportunities like blogs, podcasts, TV shows, and radio interviews. Editors and producers often find experts through online searches, so guest posting increases your visibility across various platforms. It even got me on the Today show!

**Can you explain the steps to get high-quality media mentions?**

It’s simple. You need to know:
1. What you want to say.
2. Where your ideal audience is.
3. The decision maker (editor) who can grant you access to that audience.

Research topics you want to write about and see where they’re already appearing. Editors need fresh content, and your contributions can make a big impact.

**What does a sample pitch look like? Who do you send it to?**

Media outlets have different sections like health, career, relationships, and fashion. Ensure your pitch goes to the right person. Your pitch should include who you are, why your idea is relevant, and what you’re going to share. You don’t need to have the article written yet; editors can help shape it for success.

**Do you need to live in a big city to get good media mentions?**

No! I live in Miami, Florida. Students in my group have had success from all over the world. All you need is an internet connection and some determination.

**What else do you do to grow your reach?**

Besides guest posting, I use Facebook ads and create YouTube content. These work well together to expand my audience.

**What are your top tips for someone aiming for your level of success?**

Firstly, take action. Overthinking and perfectionism can hinder progress. Secondly, find role models who have achieved what you want and learn from them.
