#### How did you get started as a transcriptionist?
I learned to transcribe back in high school using shorthand and typewriters. Over the years, I transitioned to using tapes and computers and became a certified medical transcriptionist (CMT) while working at an HMO. When my husband became disabled, I left my high-paying job to care for him and decided to use my transcription skills to work from home. I applied to a few companies, got hired, and have been doing it ever since.

A transcriptionist converts audio or video content into text. While many assume it’s limited to medical transcription, I focus on general and legal transcription, which is in high demand.
#### How much can you make as a transcriptionist?
Earnings can vary based on skill level, location, and the type of transcription. Beginners can expect around $15 an hour, but with experience, you can earn much more. I’ve built my business over ten years and now earn significantly more.
#### Can anyone become a transcriptionist and transcribe online?
No, not everyone can do it. You need to be proficient in typing, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and using specialized software. Training is essential; it’s not just about listening and typing.
