A Comprehensive Guide to Thriving as a Stella & Dot Independent Stylist: Income Insights

Hey everyone! If you’re new here, I’m all about helping you make extra money to improve your financial situation, like by becoming a Stella & Dot Stylist. Before I left my day job, I was making about $5,000 to $10,000 each month on the side with my online business. Now, it’s my full-time gig and I absolutely love it!

Today, I want to share the next part of my “Extra Income” series, focusing on Stella & Dot jobs. If you’d like to be featured, just shoot me an email. You can also check out other hustles in this series.

A bit about me: I’m a wife, mom to a 3-year-old girl, and a public health dentist. Recently, I joined my friends as a Stylist with Stella & Dot, a jewelry and accessory company. I was looking for a creative outlet and a fun, flexible way to earn extra income.

As an independent Stylist with Stella & Dot, I share and sell amazing jewelry and accessories online and at in-home trunk shows or pop-up shops. The company has around 12,000 active stylists and is one of the fastest-growing companies, with a $25 billion global market opportunity. The products are often featured in style magazines and are described as modern-vintage boutique style—chic but affordable. I love their products, which motivated me to get involved! They offer everything from statement necklaces and earrings to bracelets, scarves, bags, and tech accessories.

So how did I get started with my side hustle as a Stella & Dot Independent Stylist? Over the last year, I developed a business plan for an academic indoor play center. Those plans are on hold, but they sparked my entrepreneurial spirit. When my best friend in Indiana told me about the opportunity to become a stylist last November, I was eager to learn more. She had connected with some old high school friends who were succeeding with the company, so I decided to join them.

What got me interested in becoming a Stella & Dot Independent Stylist? By day, I’m a public health dentist. I was looking for a creative outlet and have always loved fashion and jewelry. I enjoy meeting new people and expanding my network, so this was a perfect fit. Plus, I wanted to earn extra income to save towards starting the indoor play space.

As a stylist, I find individuals or businesses like salons, spas, or restaurants to host trunk shows or pop-up shops. I bring jewelry and accessory samples and set up a display. Guests can try on the pieces, and I give style tips. I also participate in various events like wedding shows, holiday events, and consignment sales. I’m always looking for new hosts or prospective stylists to join my team. The heart of the business is hosting trunk shows or pop-up shops at homes or other venues where the host invites friends, family, and co-workers for a fun get-together. We also sell products online through our e-boutiques, and hosts get a personal online link to their show so people who can’t attend can still shop. Hosts earn style rewards, which are free and half-price products, equal to about 25% of the sales from the show.

What has surprised me most about working with Stella & Dot is that if you choose something you’re passionate about, it doesn’t feel like work. This is so much fun that it honestly doesn’t feel like work! Being part of a social selling company has been wonderful as my first business venture. There’s amazing training and support to help us stylists succeed.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned working for Stella & Dot is that you really have to put yourself out there. You need to network and make as many connections as possible. I’ve learned not to be afraid to ask and not to fear rejection. Each “no” gets you closer to a “yes”!

It costs $199 to get started with Stella & Dot. You get a start-up kit with business supplies and $350 in free products of your choice. Plus, you get 50% off for your first 30 days to build your sample collection.

The most positive thing about my side job at Stella & Dot is the supportive culture. It’s inspiring to be part of a network where everyone helps each other improve. My jewelry and accessory wardrobe has also greatly improved! Hosts get style rewards, which are free and half-price products, and giving away free stuff is one of the best parts!

My business goals for the upcoming year are to be consistent with my sales and trunk shows, aiming for about 4-6 shows or events per month. I also want to grow my team by sponsoring new stylists and sharing the opportunity with others.

Thank you, Michelle, for hosting a show and giving me the chance to present this guest post. If anyone has questions about the products, hosting a show, or joining the company, please check out my website or send me an email. In honor of Valentine’s Day, I’m offering 14% off, good through 2/16/14. Contact me directly to apply the offer.

Now, this is Michelle speaking. Alyssa asked if I wanted to review a product, and I couldn’t say no. I’ve been eyeing different jewelry pieces on the website for a while. I knew I wanted something for the wedding, and I’m glad I partnered with her. I received the Somervell necklace with matching earrings, and I know I want to wear both pieces for my wedding. They will look perfect with my dress and add a little spunk. I also plan on buying my bridesmaids some gifts from Stella & Dot.
