Many of you have shown interest in becoming location independent and figuring out how to make money while traveling after reading my recent post about traveling the world and working at the same time. Being location independent is fantastic, but you still need to earn a living to support yourself. Not everyone can travel for months or years without an income.
Don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to make money while traveling. Don’t let this challenge stop you from living your dream. This isn’t just a fantasy—it’s real! I’m location independent, and I know many others who are too.
Here are several ways to make money while traveling:
1. **Run a Website**
This is what I do to make money while traveling. I never imagined I’d earn as much as I do online. Blogging isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme, but with hard work, it can provide side income or even a full-time income. You can make money through advertising, affiliate marketing, sponsorships, reviews, partnerships, e-courses, ebooks, and more. If you’re interested, you can start your own blog for as low as $2.95 per month and get a free domain.
2. **Find a Job in the Places You Visit**
If you plan to stay in a city for more than just a vacation, there are many ways to earn a living:
– Bartend or work at a restaurant
– Work at a hotel, motel, campground, or hostel
– Help out on a farm
– Work on a cruise ship or yacht
– Tutor
– Become an Au Pair
– Teach English
3. **Freelance Write or Become a Virtual Assistant**
Freelance writing and virtual assisting were some of the first things I did to make money online, and I still do them today. Freelance writing can be done from anywhere, and virtual assistants help businesses run smoothly by handling tasks like replying to emails or collecting data. You could even become a travel freelance writer.
4. **Sell Products**
Another way to make money while traveling is by selling products, both online and offline. Some people sell items they collect while traveling or create crafts to sell at local fairs. Online platforms like eBay, Etsy, and Craigslist are great for selling products.
5. **Earn Passive Income**
Earning passive income while traveling might be one of the best options. This way, you won’t feel tied down to work and can fully enjoy your travels. Passive income can come from dividend income, rental real estate, affiliate marketing, and more.
6. **Housesit**
Housesitting usually means working for free, but sometimes you get paid. Even if you aren’t paid, it’s a free place to stay, and you might stay in some very nice homes. This can help cut your travel costs.
7. **Work Remotely**
Some people manage to keep their day jobs while traveling. While not all employers are flexible, it’s worth asking if you can work remotely. If you plan on traveling anyway, it doesn’t hurt to ask.
For internet access while traveling, I use a Verizon MiFi Jetpack.
