Master the Art of Crafting a Lucrative Ebook with Abby Lawson

Today, I want to share an insightful interview that will guide you through the process of creating an eBook. I recently talked with my friend Abby from Just a Girl and Her Blog, who has found great success in this area. Abby made over $110,000 from digital products like eBooks in 2015 and is set to surpass that in 2016. She started blogging three years ago with no prior knowledge and now earns six figures annually, largely thanks to her eBooks. Abby is now teaching others her method for writing and launching profitable eBooks, and it’s brilliant!

If you’re searching for a new business idea or even a side hustle, creating an eBook might be worth considering. Check out the interview below for more details on how to create and successfully sell an eBook. If you’ve ever thought about writing an eBook but didn’t know where to start, this interview will be incredibly helpful.

I started Just a Girl and Her Blog in January 2013 on a whim. At the time, I was a stay-at-home mom looking for a creative outlet and a project to keep me busy. I didn’t initially plan to turn the blog into a business, but I quickly became passionate about blogging and learned everything I could about growing my site. Today, the blog focuses on home decor and organization, and we also share our business journey and publish monthly income reports.

My favorite way to make money blogging is by creating and selling my own digital products, like eBooks and courses. It’s incredibly satisfying to earn money from something you’ve created from scratch, and digital products allow me to help people more deeply than a blog post alone.

I decided to write my first eBook because my husband Donnie encouraged me. I was initially scared that no one would buy it or that I wouldn’t know how to market it. But with Donnie’s support, we figured out the necessary tools and strategies, leading to the creation of our first eBook, “Building a Framework: The Ultimate Blogging Handbook.” Since then, we’ve written two more eBooks and even launched an online course called BookBoss.

In 2015, we made over $110,000 from digital product sales, and in the first quarter of 2016, we’ve already made over $58,000.

Writing an eBook isn’t “easy,” but it’s definitely doable if you know the right steps. I recommend a 90-day period to write and launch an eBook. Any less, and it’s rushed; any more, and you risk procrastinating.

Anyone can make money from an eBook, but having a blog with a consistent posting routine helps. You don’t need a huge following or years of blogging experience. Many people wait too long before writing their first eBook!

I enjoy writing eBooks because they allow me to address my readers’ problems or needs in a more detailed way than a blog post. They’re relatively simple to create, allowing you to focus on the all-important launch process. eBooks also help transition readers from consuming free content to purchasing products, and with the right systems in place, sales can become passive income.

To create an eBook, the most crucial step is to grow a targeted email list of people interested in your eBook topic. The quality of your email list greatly influences your launch’s success. It’s also important to have a detailed launch plan so you know exactly what to do and when. Post-launch, continue driving sales by promoting your eBook through various channels.

Writing an eBook can be low-cost. For our first book, we spent only $100 on the cover design and did everything else ourselves. Now, we spend a bit more on covers and promotional graphics, and we pay for services like Instapage for landing pages, payment processors like Gumroad and SendOwl, and our email service ConvertKit.

For anyone wanting to write an eBook, my advice is to set a firm launch date, make a solid plan, and go for it! Many people talk about writing an eBook but never take action. If you take it one step at a time, you’ll get there!
